School board meets Thursday at Miller Elementary School

Final approval of the Tomah School’s District’s new Exercise and Sports Science curriculum leads a light Tomah School Board agenda Thursday.

The regular board meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Miller Elementary School gymnasium.

Board members are likely to approve changes that reflect an enhanced emphasis on physical fitness and lifetime exercise. Much of the change is driven by a $660,000 physical fitness grant the school district received from the federal government.

All nine school buildings received fitness equipment, and a new fitness center was built at Tomah High School to accommodate the treadmills and stairmasters that were purchased.

Other agenda items include:

* Recognition of students and staff.

* Update on the school board election. Nine candidates have filed for the three seats up for election later this spring.

* Board policies on inter-library loans, vending machines and technology for special needs students.

* Wisconsin Association of School Boards resolutions.

* Resignations and approval of contracts.

* Requests to create an art honors advisor position.

* Recommended policies from the Department of Public Instruction regarding special education.

The Finance Committee will meet at 6:45 p.m., followed by the Personnel Committee at 7:15 p.m.
