Published - Friday, February 01, 2008 Eugene R. Burnstad, Darlene A. Davis, Edith A. Everson, James S. Long, Barbara A. Schultz Eugene R. Burnstad Eugene Roland Burnstad, age 77, of Tomah, WI, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2008, at his son’s home in Fort Lauderdale, FL. He was born on May 8, 1930, to Chet and Edna (Butterfuss) Burnstad. He was united in marriage to Karyl Moseley on April 15, 1950. He loved farming but above all he loved Jehovah. He was a kind and compassionate man and will sorely be missed by his devoted wife Karyl. There are so many little things that add up to the great human being that he was. He is survived by his eight children, Dana (Sally) Burnstad, Sara (Steve) Woodard, Sue (Slavko) Malinowsky, Drew Burnstad, Daran (Leanne) Burnstad, Syd (Dana) Sawrey, Stacey Tormoen, and Shana Burnstad, as well as 26 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren; his brother, Victor (Rita) Burnstad, and two sisters, Marlene (JC) Johnson and Karen Boldon; two aunts, Eunice Moseley and Darlene (Ron) Tralmer; one uncle, Norman Bjornstad, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Donald. A memorial service will be held in Tomah at a later date. Details have yet to be determined. Darlene A. Davis Darlene A. Davis, age 69, of Darlington, WI, passed away Friday, Jan. 25, 2008, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington. She was born on May 9, 1938, in Tomah, WI, to Frank W. and Alice H. (Krueger) Prell. Darlene graduated from Tomah High School in 1956 and received her certificate as an Accredited Records Technician at Breckenridge, MN. She was united in marriage to Michael E. Davis on Sept. 5, 1959, in Tomah. Darlene moved to Darlington in 1957 where she worked as a Medical Records Technician for Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington. After 41 years of service at the hospital, she retired in 1998. Darlene is survived by her son: John Davis of Darlington; her brother: Howard (Ann) Prell of Iron River, WI; one sister-in-law: Marian (Roger) Monson of Darlington; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by husband Mike on June 22, 1998. Darlene was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington, and its Council of Catholic Women. She loved camping with her family, crocheting afghans, and embroidery. Darlene was a true animal lover, and treasured her cats Jamaica and Boots. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at 11:30 a.m. at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Darlington with Rev. Randy Budnar co-officiating. Burial will be at Union Grove Cemetery in Darlington. A visitation was held on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2008, from 3 until 7 p.m. at Erickson Funeral Home in Darlington where a scripture service was held at 3 p.m. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.ericksonfuneralhome.com. For those who prefer, a memorial fund has been established in Darlene’s name. Edith A. Everson Edith A. Everson, 95, of Tomah, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at the Morrow Memorial Home, Sparta. She was born July 1, 1912, to Arthur and Ann (Wuensch) Hundt at Middle Ridge. She was united in marriage to Harry Everson on Oct. 6, 1951, at St. Joseph’s Cathedral in La Crosse. She was on the Board of Directors for the Catholic Charities of the Diocese of La Crosse and head of the PCCW at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was the Home Extension Cooperative Homemaker of the Year in 1980. She was a very talented cook and homemaker. She was a faithful member of St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Edith enjoyed traveling the world;, she took trips to China, Europe, and Jerusalem. She volunteered and delivered for Meals on Wheels and volunteered at the Tomah V.A. She is survived by her brothers, Edward (Germaine) Hundt of Green Bay and Arthur Hundt of La Crosse; a sister, Esther (Sy) Einstoss of Ventura, CA, as well as four sisters-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; four brothers, Albert, Howard, Leo and Bill; a sister, Anna Bell Hughes; a brother-in-law, Earl Hughes, and a sister-in-law Celia Hundt. A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at 1:30 p.m. at St. Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 303 W. Monroe St., Tomah. The Very Rev. Steven J. Kachel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the church on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until time of the Mass. A parish rosary will be recited at 1 p.m. Friday. The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements. James S. Long James Stanley Long, 85, of Tomah, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2008, at the Tomah Health Care Center. He was born June 8, 1922, to John Henry and Mamie Viola (Yow) in Leesville, TX. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Roof on Jan. 5, 1944, in Gonzales, TX. She preceded him in death Jan. 25, 1992. He served overseas in WWII with the Army Air Force. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Disabled American Veterans. He worked as a nurses aide at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tomah until his retirement. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and most of all spending time with this grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sons, Phillip James (Kathleen) Long of Galesville and Gregory Duane (Jacqueline) Long of Tomah; a daughter, Cheryl Ann (Keith) Keene of Tomah; five grandchildren, Kevin (Tatiana) Keene of Coon Rapids, MN, Christopher Long of Tomah, Nicholas (Jamie) Long of Tomah, David Long and Andrew Long, both of Anoka, MN; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Emily Long; two brothers, Milton “Sonny” (Marie) and Raymond (June), both of New Braunfels, TX; two nephews, Keith and Mark Long, both of Texas; three nieces, Mary Ann (Ronnie) Renz of LA, Jan (David Butler) Long, and Barbara Jean Long, both of Texas; great-nieces, great-nephews, and other relatives and friends. In addition to his wife, Rosemary, he was preceded in death by an infant brother, Phillip, and a sister, Mary Bishop. Funeral services will be held Friday, Feb. 1, at 10:30 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah. Robert Krook will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery, Tomah. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home today (Thursday) from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of the service. Barbara A. Schultz Barbara A. Schultz, age 64, of Shennington, WI, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, after a long battle with cancer. She was born on May 17, 1943, in Baraboo, WI. She grew up in the Baraboo area and went to school there. She was united in marriage to Walter Schultz, Jr. on Aug. 11, 1979. The great passion in Barbara’s life was always her family. As a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she always delighted in spending time with her family and sharing her hobbies and love of life with them. Whether teaching a son to cook, a granddaughter to stamp a greeting card, or a great-grandson to fish, Barbara always shared the best of herself. She had a great appreciation for the outdoors and enjoyed taking long walks and gardening. She loved fishing and went whenever she had the opportunity. When Barbara wasn’t enjoying the outdoors, she spent time doing artistic crafts such as quilting, stamping greeting cards, and painting, and in the later years of her life was an exceptionally talented painter. She also shared her love of life by volunteering with local organizations such as the Tomah Food Pantry and the Tomah Hospital Auxiliary Thrift Shop. She is survived by her husband, Walter Schultz; two sons, Brian (Wendy) Link and William Huffman; a daughter, Robin Link; a sister, Karen Fisher; two nieces; 12 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; close friends, Martin and Lisa Potter and Eileen Fisher; a special sister-in-law, Liz Pierce; a special brother-in-law, Otto Schultz; and many loving family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2008, 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shennington. Family and friends are invited for visitation from 10 a.m. until the 1 p.m. service on Saturday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. Burial will take place at a later date in the St. John’s Cemetery near Shennington. The Torkelson Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
