The old weight room at Tomah High School may be transformed into office space for administrative staff. Members of the Tomah School District’s Facilities Committee discussed the issue during their meeting Wednesday at the Robert Kupper Learning Center.
School district Business Manager Greg Gaarder distributed rough sketches outlining options for transforming the old weight room into office space for the principal, two assistant principals, activities director and their support staffs.
The room became vacant once construction of a new fitness center was completed last fall.
“There’s not a whole lot of demolition that would need to take place,” Gaarder said. “It would be a matter of just putting up walls.”
Gaarder had no cost estimate for the move. The old weight room is located under the wrestling loft next to the main high school gymnasium.
Moving the offices would be part of a larger plan to relocate the front entrance of the high school from Lincoln Avenue to the north parking lot.
In other business, Gaarder said the cold and snowy winter and rising energy prices are impacting the budget.
“Utilities are up, gas for buses is up and snowplowing is up,” Gaarder said.
