Irene M. Carlsen

Irene M. Carlsen, 89, of Tomah, died peacefully April 6, 2008, at the Cranberry Courts Assisted Living Facility. She was born Sept. 16, 1918, to Milton and Edna (Saylor) Applegate in Jersey City, NJ. She was united in marriage to Victor Winker on Oct. 2, 1948, and to this union were born four children. She was united in marriage to Frank Carlsen on Nov. 26, 1969, at the Methodist church in New Lisbon. Irene worked at the V.A. Medical Center in Tomah until her retirement. She loved to sew, knit and crotchet. She was a faithful member of the Lone Rock Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Larry (Karen) Applegate of Janesville; two daughters, Marjori Rose of Baraboo and Janet Ganther of Tomah; nine grandchildren, Kurt Winker of Kenosha, Kristen Winker of Kenosha, Lyle Rose Jr. of Wisconsin Dells, Bruce Rose of Wisconsin Dells, Katherine Bartels of Homasa, FL, Becky Rogge of Wisconsin Dells, Heather Conradson of Janesville, Heidi Applegate of Janesville, and Heath Applegate of Janesville; 15 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Eleanor Silva of Fayettville, NC, and Bernice Bany of West Palm Beach, FL, and other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by two sons, Victor and Allen, and a daughter-in-law, Marie.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 9, at 11 a.m. at the Lone Rock Baptist Church. Pastor Raymond Anderson officiated. Burial was in the Orange Cemetery.

Relatives and friends called at the church on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.

The Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home assisted the family with the arrangements.
