Supanat Chonlakarn didn’t eat much when he first arrived at the Genrich household.

It didn’t take long, however, before Supanat acquired a taste for American food.

“When he first came here, he didn’t eat anything,” said Connor Genrich, whose family served as Supanat's hosts. “At first, I don’t think he liked our food -- it was the first time he had a bratwurst.

“Now, I think bratwurst is his favorite food. He even likes it cold.”

Supanat is one of four middle school-aged students from Thailand to visit Tomah Middle School as part of an exchange program sponsored by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction. He is joined by one other boy, Peerawich Supich, and two girls, Purichaya Kuptajit and Sirada Chatikavanij and an English teacher, Somtawin Boonchai.

The five arrived in Tomah on April 12 and will return to Thailand April 30. The visitors have packed many activities into 18 days, including visits to a farm, Jellystone Park, a trip to Chicago, where they saw the Sears Tower, and a trip across the Mississippi River into Minnesota.

" The Thai students were awesome to have in class and it was so sad to see them leave. They were all so nice and I will always stay in touch with them. "
