La Crosse Logan towered over the Mississippi Valley Conference boys track & field meet, but two individuals and one relay from Tomah created room to stand out.

Auggie Moser won the pole vault, Derek Storkel won the 3,200-meter run and Moser teamed with Matt Ferry, Rhett Monroe and Zach Johnson to win the 800-meter to produce three champions for the Timberwolves at the MVC meet at Logan High School’s Swanson Field.

Both the Tomah boys and girls finished fifth in the seven-team meet.

Moser cleared 12 feet to win the pole vault, while Storkel won the 3200 in 9 minutes, 43.14 seconds. Storkel was second in the 1600, where he lost to arch-rival Zach Wilhelmy of La Crosse Aquinas. Wilhelmy won the race in 4:16.64, while Storkel was in second at 4:19.78. Both times would have placed in the top six at last year’s state meet in Division 1.

No time was available for the 800 relay team.

Tomah’s only other top-three finish came in the shot put, where Tyler Butzler and Kyle Price were second and third. Butzler’s second-place throw was 49 feet, 4 inches, while Price was third with an effort of 46-6.

Team scores: La Crosse Logan 212.5, La Crosse Central 134.5, La Crosse Aquinas 111, Onalaska 85.5, Tomah 69, Holmen 65, Sparta 20.5.

There were no Tomah champions on the girls side, but the Timberwolves had three individuals and two relays in the top three.

Tomah’s 400 relay team of Melissa Moravec, Amy Gasser, Lauren Patterson and Emily Haines took second with a time of 51.20 seconds, .14 seconds behind champion Holmen. In the 800 relay, Patterson, Gasser, Tayler Westpfahl and Kristin Schuster finished second in 1:51.90.

Haines popped her best triple jump of the season (36-11 1/2) to finish second behind Logan’s Emily Worden. Both reached the state meet last year.

Caitlin Sweet took second in the discus with a throw of 92-10, while Moravec was third in the long jump with a mark of 16-11.

Team scores: La Crosse Logan 175.5, Holmen 136.5, Onalaska 126, La Crosse Central 101, Tomah 81, Sparta 49, La Crosse Aquinas 21.

Mauston Invite

Saturday, the girls capped their regular season by winning the Mauston Invitational. It was a big meet for Moravec, who won both the long jump (16-9) and the 100-meter dash (12.96 seconds).

" You sound like you've never won a thing in your life! For a young a man or lady, accomplishments are important and so is recognition. It builds confidence, it builds winners, it builds leaders for the future. Absolutley nothing wrong with giving a "that a boy" where it's rightfully deserved.
Congrats to Storkel and Moser!
Congrats to all THS athletes for working hard and putting up with nay-sayers and pruds who ruin good moments and make tough moments even tougher! "

" Get Over It! There is nothing wrong with naming ones that did a great job and set records. Yes there are other athletes, and I am sure they all do well too. Maybe this would give them incentive to push more and try to make records. Congratulations to all. Job well done. "

" Oh good, Johnny Negative is back.
Leave it to Tomah to have a good article with good intentions bashed with ANOTHER negative comment.
I bet your name is Bud. "

" Can an article be written without continuosly using names as titles let alone focusing on a few while being dismissive of other athletes? "
