The Tomah High School Music Department is proud to present the 2008 Spring "Pops" Concert which is scheduled for 7pm on Sunday, May 18th. The concert will be held in the Tomah High School Auditorium.

Music selections will include motion picture soundtracks, Broadway musicals, and patriotic numbers.

The THS Concert Band will perform two selections from a recent workshop featuring UW-La Crosse clinician and director, Dr. Tammy Fisher. Those selections are "Odyssey" by Jim Caudill and Clare Grundman's "A Welsh Rhapsody." The 56-member ensemble will also perform selections from Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" and the James Ployhar publication, "Variations on a Sioux Melody." The featured piece for the Concert Band include the Film Scores of composer, Danny Elfman. Included in this collection are the films "Tales from the Crypt," "The Nightmare Before Christmas," and "Spider-Man."

The THS Wind Ensemble will open with a John Williams Olympic theme, "Summon the Heroes." Also included in their portion of the concert are Leonard Bernstein's "West Side Story," Tschaikowsky's "Marche Slave," and Frank Ticheli's arrangement of "Loch Lomond." Also featured will be music from the 2000 motion picture, "Gladiator." Two patriotic numbers will fill out the remainder of the program. Members of the THS Concert Choir will join the group for a rousing rendition of "Battle Hymn of the Republic." The concert will conclude with a great Tomah tradition…the playing of our national march, "The Stars and Stripes Forever," by John Philip Sousa.

The concert is free of charge and a great family event. The seniors are performing for the last time, so we hope to send them off by filling the auditorium. According to Director of Bands, Ryan Waldhart, "This will be a great event for everyone in our community. The music is more familiar and lighter in nature compared to some of our other concerts. Our pops concert has become very popular over the last few years, so come early to get a good seat!"
