Amtrak service has been temporarily suspended between Chicago and St. Paul, Minn., because of flooding.

No train has been through the Tomah Amtrak station since June 12, Amtrak District Manager of Stations Rick Johnson said. All connections between Chicago and St. Paul have been bussing passengers to their destinations.

“It has all been busses since last Thursday,” Johnson said. “We try to make all the stops and keep as close to the train schedule as we can.”

Johnson said that once passengers reach Chicago or St. Paul, trains are available for travel. It will take several days for regular train service to continue for Amtrak, Johnson said.

“There is still major flooding east of Columbus where water is close to four feet deep over the tracks,” Johnson said. “They will have to inspect the track when the water recedes. It will be several days yet at least.”

It sure would be nice wrote on Jun 20, 2008 1:00 PM:

" If more people took the train when they went on long trips. That would def. be a help to the fuel situation. We're way too addicted to our cars here. I suppose it's going to have to end up like european markets where gas is $7-$8/gal. before people really start looking at mass transit options. I went on a vacation in europe a couple months ago, and travelled everywhere by train. I was actually surprised to find that it wasn't that bad haha "
