SPARTA — Monroe County officials are still sorting out a shooting that left a man hospitalized.
David D. Wohlhoefer, 42, was taken to a Sparta, Wis., hospital with a gunshot wound about 7:18 p.m. Monday, Monroe County Sheriff Dennis Pedersen said.
Wohlhoefer has since been transferred to a hospital in Rochester, Minn., where he is in critical condition.
Pedersen said the shooting happened at 11911 Goodview Ave., in the town of Angelo. And, while investigators are “quite a ways into their investigation,” they remain uncertain how Wohlhoefer was shot.
“There’s a possibility it was (self-inflicted), but we don’t know if it was intentional or accidental and we want to exclude the possibility a second party was involved as well,” Pedersen said.
