The Tomah Police Department filed charges on June 25 after a three-month investigation into identity theft of a Tomah man.
Charges were sent to the Monroe County District Attorney by Tomah Police for Jesse Sexton, who was living in Wausau at the time. Sexton had previously lived with a girl friend in Tomah.
The victim reported his vehicle was entered on the night of March 31, and a combination black leather check book and wallet, as well as an XM radio, were stolen. Items removed from the vehicle included personal identification, credit cards, and a partial book of checks. According to the police report, He notified his bank of the theft.
On April 3, activity on his checking account was indicated. An auto-generated check was used to purchase items from an online pharmaceutical company. Four identified uses of the checking account number were reported, with values totaling over $200. Over $800 was also used on a Wal-Mart credit card.
Police contacted Sexton on June 23, and he admitted using the card, but said it was given to him from people who owed him money.
Walensky sent charges to the Monroe County DA on June 25.
