The detour of Hwy. 16 and West Clifton Street due to a damaged sewer line was lifted Wednesday, officials said.
Work to repair the sewer pipeline that collapsed last Friday was completed late Wednesday afternoon and the route reopened to traffic, according to Tomah police.
The work originally had been expected to be finished by Wednesday, but officials announced earlier this week the road might not reopen until Friday. A new pipe was in place Monday, but a manhole on the east side of Hwy. 16 was found to have also sunk, resulting in its replacement Monday through Wednesday. Wastewater supervisor Don Pierce credits long hours of work by Rezin Construction for the sooner than expected completion of the project.
“It went a little better than expected,” Pierce said. “We had a little snag, and the manhole put us a day and a half behind, but they (Rezin) worked long hours. I was afraid we wouldn’t get the road open until Friday, but (Wednesday) night, it happened.”
Mathy Construction blacktopped the affected portion of Hwy. 16 after the work to repair the sewer line had been completed. The road was reopened at 6 p.m., Wednesday.
