MADISON n Gov. Jim Doyle today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared a state of disaster for Monroe County, bringing the number of Wisconsin counties where individual assistance is available to 30.

“As Wisconsin communities recover and rebuild from June’s devastating weather and floods, FEMA continues to provide swift relief to affected individuals and families,” Governor Doyle said. “Together, we will move forward efforts to aid and strengthen communities across the state.”

Governor Doyle declared a state of emergency in 30 counties after severe weather in June brought record floods and other damage across southern Wisconsin. Ongoing assessments made Monroe County eligible for individual assistance, which can cover costs such as home repair and temporary housing.

FEMA’s disaster declarations make federal money available for individual assistance, such as home repair and temporary housing costs.

Those living in counties declared a state of disaster can apply for individual assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or online at www.fema.gov.

The 29 other counties in which individual assistance is available are: Adams, Calumet, Columbia, Crawford, Dane, Dodge, Fond du Lac, Grant, Green, Green Lake, Iowa, Jefferson, Juneau, Kenosha, La Crosse, Marquette, Milwaukee, Manitowoc, Ozaukee, Racine, Richland, Rock, Sauk, Sheboygan, Vernon, Walworth, Washington, Waukesha and Winnebago.

To date, FEMA is also making available public infrastructure assistance to 27 counties in Wisconsin.
