John F. “Sonny” Antone
John Francis “Sonny” Antone, age 64, died on his birthday, Monday, July 7, 2008, in the emergency department of Mercy Hospital, Janesville. He was born July 7, 1944, in Sparta, WI, the son of Frank Joseph and Louise Marie (Oberlin) Antone. John farmed in the Tomah area and worked at Trane in La Crosse and Allis-Chalmers in West Allis. John was an avid hunter and NASCAR enthusiast.
Survivors include four sisters: Diana Gilson, with whom John resided; Judy (Allan) Obermeyer of Racine, Rosemary Bremel of Beloit, Gloria (Danny) Trail of Beloit; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Vernon Gilson and Paul Bremel; a nephew, Shawn Trail; and a great-nephew, Jordan Christopher Gilson.
A Prayer Service will be held Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah. The Very Rev. Steve Kachel will officiate. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Tomah.
Relatives and friends are invited to call on Saturday at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Lucille Newcomb
Lucille E. Newcomb, 82, of Tomah, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, at her home. She was born July 29, 1925, to Fred and Louise (Wulf) Nemitz in the Town of Knapp. She was united in marriage to Thomas Newcomb on May 11, 1946, in Black River Falls. He preceded her in death in May of 1991.
She worked at the VA Medical Center in Tomah until her retirement.
She enjoyed gardening. Lucille enjoyed cooking and experimenting with different foods. She was an avid birdwatcher and loved nature.
She is survived by two sons, Kenneth (Tammy) of Tomah and Timothy of Tomah; three grandchildren, Tony, Tina and Teresa, all of Tomah; five great-grandchildren, Lacy, Michael, Bryce, Ryonna and Tynne; a brother, Harry (Evelyn) Nemitz of Eau Claire; a sister, Esther McCollough of Roscoe, IL; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were today (Thursday), July 10, at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St., Tomah. Pastor Donald Root officiated. Burial was in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, in the Town of Tomah.

Gordon D. Pieper
Gordon D. Pieper, of Tomah, formerly of Waukesha, died on Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Tomah VA Medical Center at the age of 77 years. Gordon was born in Waukesha, WI, on June 20, 1931, the son of Reinhard and Amanda Pieper. He was a member of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church. Gordon was employed as an auto mechanic at Kuettner Oldsmobile for many years and proudly served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
Gordon will be deeply missed by his sister, Lois Burke of Hobe Sound, FL, and many nieces and nephews. He is further survived by other relatives and friends. Gordon was preceded in death by his parents.
The graveside service with military honors for Gordon will be held on Tuesday, July 15, at 10:30 a.m. at Prairie Home Cemetery, Waukesha. Rev. Art Koepsell will be officiating. Meet at the cemetery office.
Gordon’s family would like to send a special thank you to the staff on floor 403B and 406B at the Tomah VA Medical Center for their extraordinary care of Gordon.

David F. Storkel
David F. Storkel, 52, of La Crosse and formerly of Tomah, died Sunday, July 6, 2008, in La Crosse. He was born Aug. 24, 1955, to Frank and Jeanette (Kenyon) Storkel in Tomah. He was a member of the 1973 graduating class of Tomah High School. He worked for Inland Printing in La Crosse. He enjoyed grilling out and having fun with his friends. He was hardworking and determined to do things his way. He was a very proud grandfather, and enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his daughter, Tiffany (Matt) Bever of Tomah; three grandchildren, Lee, Tyler and Jaydn; three brothers, Craig and Jim, both of Warrens, and Scott of Madison; a sister, Holly Storkel of Sedona, AZ, other relatives and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 11, at 11 a.m. at the Sonnenburg Family Funeral Home, 801 E. Monowau St. Pastor Edwin Stigen will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.
