Tomah Police responded to a report of a suicide attempt on Sunday night, where a man was arrested and taken to a mental health facility after barricading himself in an apartment with a woman and her 10-year-old son.

Police say that upon responding a man refused to leave the apartment and made threats involving weapons. Officers engaged the subject in a telephone conversation while further resources responded including personnel from the Wisconsin State Patrol, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Tomah Area Ambulance Service and Tomah Fire Department.

The Monroe County Combined Tactical Unit responded to the apartment. After several hours, the 30-year-old woman and child exited the apartment onto a second-floor deck. The man pulled the woman back in the apartment and SWAT team members used a ladder to rescue the boy.

Officers were concerned for the safety of the female and entered the apartment when they could not engage the subjects in conversation. A crisis entry was conducted, and the couple was found barricaded in a bedroom. Authorities say the woman was removed from the bedroom and officers used a TASER to take the man into custody.

The male subject will be referred to the Monroe County District Attorney for prosecution of criminal charges including false imprisonment.

Hmmm. Tomah, got problems in your neighborhoods??? "

" ACLU is a troll why doesn't everyone just ignore the same comment made in a lot of stories and not respond.

As far as the story goes, it would be nice to know the location where the incident happened. Even a genral vicinity. Some may want to get there news from the paper and not by asking around. Isn't "Where" one of the journalistic W's? "

" My sympathy to the victims as this must have been an aweful experience. Glad no one was hurt. As far as ACLU, well, that is his/her sarcastic comment to just about any situation. "

" re: grow up...

Nobody has attempted to dismiss or minimize the things that this mother and child went through, and no one is trying to be funny!

If you can't handle the truth, don't read it. Furthermore, the victims in this incident are more inclined to understand our reasoning. Let's see how well these VICTIMS support criminal's rights? Goodness knows the liberals will be concerned with the criminal's rights over the victims' rights. "

" Yeah Yeah...freedom of speech and all that... Still. Maybe some of you should think before you type. There are people involved that went through a very rough few hours, do you think they want to come on here and read this crap? Grow up and try thinking about others for a change instead of just trying to be funny. "

" I think you are onto something here. In 30 years we will look back in horror at how bigoted we were toward people like this. We will wonder how we could have oppressed people merely because they had a different set of morals and values, how we could have infringed on their right to choose. "

To wakeup wrote on Jul 15, 2008 11:48 AM:

" Why are you so sure its sarcasm? How do you know some people don't really feel this way? The poster merely asked how they knew for a fact that ACLU is a Christian. "

" Which part of ACLU's post leads you to believe he is a Christian? I believe the ACLU is for the most part anti-Christian.... "

Wakeup wrote on Jul 15, 2008 8:16 AM:

" ACLU is merely pointing out the flaws of the post-modern ideal of relative morality.

"Yes, today holding someone against their will is illegal, but tomorrow it will be my civil right to do so because I am just a Criminal-American, and who are you to oppress me, especially, since I was born with the criminal gene! In fact, my victim is not really a victim at all. She was just un-enlightened and bigoted to my plight as a Criminal American" "

" wow aclu, for a christian you are pretty quick to judge and cast stones.....maybe you should read that bible again instead of trolling on the internet......Scary situation and i am just glad everyone got out ok and no one(victims, suicidal person, police and firmen)was hurt.Good job guys!! "

" What does the ACLU have to do with innocent children being out in harms way? I think you are an idiot! "

ACLU wrote on Jul 14, 2008 3:23 PM:

" Wasn't this man merely practicing an alternative lifestyle that we must try to be more tolerant of? We should respect his right to choose and stop trying to impose our morality on others. Otherwise, we are in danger of becoming a Christian theocracy. Leave people like this alone and go after the kids who put religious symbols on their artwork. "
