Work will soon begin on the construction of an Arby’s fast food location on Tomah’s north side.

A representative from the general contractor for the project, Best Built Inc. of Green Bay, was in Tomah today (Thursday) and paid for the construction permit, Tomah Building Inspector Shane Rolff said. The permit has been approved for nearly a month.

There is no estimated completion date for the project, but Rolff said that the contractors expect to be moving dirt at the future Arby’s location on the southeast corner of State Highway 21 and Sam Walton Drive within 10 days.

A variance was granted by the city on Dec. 13, 2007, for Arby’s to install a 70-foot tall sign along with the construction of the restaurant.

NONE OF THESE BUSINESSES ARE EVER GOING TO MOVE INTO TOMAH.....THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY TALK BY ANY OF THESE COMPANIES TO EVEN CONSIDER MOVING TO TOMAH.

" I heard that the local tribe is going to build a multi million dollar casino here in Tomah. Wouldn't that be nice look at all of the gas we could save. "

" Great...another fast food restaurant to hit Tomah. Just what it needs to continue contributing to the embarrasing obesity problem in the US. Now, as for Target, Kohls, etc...are you kidding? Do you really think these large businesses are going to expand into a town of under 10K people that already has a Super Walmart? I highly doubt it. Keep dreaming. "

" Well, you never know. Look at the uproar that students simple art project caused. It made national news, for crying out loud! Just saying, Arby's should be prepared for what they are getting into. "

South side vs North Side wrote on Jul 26, 2008 11:59 AM:

" A new business is drawn to the customer base. The south side isnt there. There are twice as many vehicles that travel along I 94 than there are I 90. Now if you were looking to bring a store, restaurant, etc in to town were are you going to put it? The north side is where it is at. Lets keep building the north end of town for tourists, restaurants, stores etc... and leave the south end of town alone. "

" If you think Tomah sucks, You can always move out. Some of us like this city.
And I agree, we do need to build up the south side. It does get frustrating that the only places to eat down there are Dairy Queen, The European Cafe or Kwik Trip. "
