Six mortgage foreclosure notices filed against properties owned by Three Bears Resort CEO Ed Van Der Molen and various partners involve individual land parcels connected with the resort.
The Tomah Monitor-Herald reported in its Aug. 4 edition that IndyMac Bank of Austin, Tex., and Timberwood Bank of Tomah filed foreclosure notices against the resort. The foreclosure notices weren’t against Van Der Molen Recreational Properties, which owns the campground, hotel and waterpark; they were against partnerships that took out mortgages on different parcels within walking distance of many of the resort’s amenities.
Timberwood Bank filed suit July 28 against Twin Lakes Land, LCC, a North Carolina company with an Illinois mailing address. The suit was settled just three days later. The defendants were Van Der Molen, Jesse L. Crisp and Otis M. Crisp, both of North Carolina; Twin Lakes Land Master, LLC; and Kingdom Properties, LLC. The suit described the .43-acre parcel, just off Skatepark Court, as “the first addition to Cranberry Lake Village.” Timberwood Bank sought to collect a balance of $306,000.
IndyMac Bank’s five suits weren’t settled as of Wednesday. The original mortgages were taken out Aug. 3, 2007. Van Der Molen, along with Kathleen Gneuhs and Kenneth Gneuhs of Illinois, borrowed nearly $1.3 million for the five properties.
Van Der Molen Recreational Properties announced last week that it would close the resort in late September if a buyer couldn’t be found.
