Tomah converted scoring opportunities into goals at Marshfield Saturday, and it gave the Timberwolves their first victory of 2008.

Jacob Dellamuth scored two goals in the first half, and Ian Duncan got two more in the second as Tomah defeated Marshfield, 4-3, in a non-conference boys soccer match at Marshfield.

Tomah improved to 1-2-1.

Coach Scott Conzemius said it was a “point of emphasis” at practice to finish off scoring chances. Tomah had scored just two goals in its first three games.

“We told them to keep loose, keep shooting, and they’ll start dropping,” Conzemius said.

Duncan’s second goal snapped a 3-3 tie in the 59th minute, and the Tomah defense held off Marshfield for the final 21 minutes.

Tomah goalkeeper Kyle Waltemath made five saves.

“It feels really good to get that first win,” Conzemius said. “The guys have been playing well, but we’ve been on the wrong end of some tough losses.”

The Timberwolves return home for their first home match in two weeks when they host La Crosse Central in a 5 p.m. start at Veterans Field. After that, only one regular-season home match remains on the schedule.

" MAN, watching soccer, it sure is exausting. I don't know how those players can run up and down the field like that. No one can say our soccer players aren't in shape!! "
