Tomah residents will have several opportunities to celebrate Independence Day this Saturday with several events scheduled throughout the day.
The Tomah Veterans Memorial Campaign is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser at the American Legion Hall, 800 Wisconsin Ave., beginning at 8 a.m. All proceeds will go toward the construction of the Veterans Memorial at Butts Park. The breakfast will be served until 9:30 a.m.
The Greater Tomah Area Convention & Visitors Bureau will host the 4th of July parade which will begin at 10 a.m. The Parade runs south down Superior Avenue from Washington Street to Holton Street, just past Gillett Park. The Chamber of Commerce has sponsored the parade for more than 20 years. This year more than 80 entries will set a record for the parade. The theme for this year’s parade is “Volunteers: Our heritage and our hope.” It will feature antique cars, tractors, floats, horses, military, emergency vehicles, bikes, and walkers. Patriotic novelties will be handed out to parade-goers, courtesy of Tomah Memorial Hospital.
Recreation Park will open for an extended fireworks show at 5 p.m. Food concessions will be open from 5-9 p.m., and the Tomah Veterans Association will run a beer tent with proceeds going toward the construction of the new Tomah Veterans Memorial. Fireworks will start at 10 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the City of Tomah, Tomah Newspapers, Burnstad’s Market and Magnum Radio Group. This year’s event will be bigger than ever, with the fireworks show growing by 50 percent.
“We are hoping the everyone plans to come down to Recreation Park this year,” Chamber of Commerce Director Chris Hanson said. “Hopefully, many of our families can begin a new 4th of July tradition and stay in town for our fireworks. Now there is even more incentive to stay in Tomah for this holiday weekend.”
