Michael M. Pergande Michael M. Pergande, 51, of Tomah, died Feb. 27, 2010, at Tomah Memorial Hospital. He was born to Myron and Delores (Kidrick) Pergande on June 4, 1958, at Mercy Hospital in Janesville. He was baptized into the Christian faith on July 20, 1958, at St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church in Janesville and confirmed on June 11, 1972, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Ridgeville. Mike was a member of the Royall High School Graduating Class of 1976. He was united in marriage to Debra Helming on June 14, 1980, at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Ridgeville. He worked for over 30 years as a tool and die maker for the Freudenberg-NOK Company, retiring in 2007. He was a member of the St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. Mike enjoyed spending his free time outdoors; he loved fishing for walleyes and pan fish, and playing ball with his dog Spot. He especially enjoyed the family camping and fishing trips. He also enjoyed farm life, whether it was cutting wood, tending to the beef cattle which he raised with his sons, working on his tractors, and planting and tending to a large family garden. He enjoyed working with his hands, and was proud of his 1967 Chevelle that he rebuilt. Mike was also a gifted craftsman. A couple of his proudest projects were the remodeling of a home with his daughter and making a fish tank stand with his son. He was always known for a sense of humor and for having an “opinion” and openly sharing it with others.

He was born June 23, 1939 to Benjamin and Alvera (Mundstock) Johnson in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He was a 1957 graduate of Central High School in La Crosse, where he was very active in sports.

Richard E. Connell, Robert Gray Richard E. Connell Richard Everette Connell, 87, of Camp Douglas, passed away on Feb. 15, 2010, after a long-suffering illness at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Tomah. He was born Nov. 5, 1922, in Eau Claire, WI, to Elmer and Susan (Brimer) Connell. He served his country honorably in Guadalcanal in World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps. Upon leaving the Marines, he became a civilian barber on military bases. He will be sadly missed and forever loved dearly. Richard will be remembered for his love of fishing, working hard all his life and fighting for what he believed in.

She was born May 9, 1924, to John “Jack” and Bessie (Lamb) Kelley in the township of Adrian, Wisconsin. She attended the Reels Valley Grade School and was a member of the Tomah High School Graduating Class of 1944. She was united in marriage to Arthur “Ted” Wilson on Aug. 9, 1944, in Wilton. He preceded her in death on August 12, 1996. Joyce and Ted moved to Wilton to farm in 1948. Up until 2 weeks ago Joyce was still on the family farm. During WWII, Joyce worked at Fort McCoy in the radio school. She was a member of the Utopian Homemakers Club of Ridgeville, the Tomah Valleyettes and the Jayco Camping Club. Joyce loved socializing with family and friends. She enjoyed working the Wilton township elections polls, the family camping trips, especially the trips down south, but mostly she enjoyed spending countless hours surrounded by her family.

He preceded her in death on October 30, 1995.

Harold W. Richards, Reva Anne Riley Harold W. Richards Harold W. Richards, 69, of Tomah, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, surrounded by his family at the Tomah Veterans Administration Center. He was born Dec. 8, 1939, to Walter and Elizabeth (Heimbecker) Richards in Dane, WI. He graduated from Lodi High School in 1958. He served as the Lodi High School class president in 1958 and the class vice president in 1955, 1956 and 1957. Harold farmed in Dane before entering the United States Army. He proudly served his country during the Berlin Crisis and later in the U.S. Army Reserves. His military career brought him to Tomah where he met his future wife, Carol Larson, while recuperating at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Harold and Carol were united in marriage on April 27, 1968, at the Tomah Baptist Church. Together, they farmed on Jacksonville Pass for over 20 years. This is where they raised their daughters, Karen, Kathy and Sherylnn. As a young man Harold was very involved with farming and agriculture. He was the recipient of the Leadership Award and the Outstanding Senior Agriculture Boy in 1958. He had a great love for farming. He especially enjoyed being involved with the farming communities around the Tomah and surrounding areas. He also enjoyed his Amish friends and neighbors. Along with farming, he drove cattle truck and worked as the “cow puncher” for the Brandau Auction Barn in Kendall for many years. Due to numerous health problems, Harold frequently visited the VA Medical Center. With these visits he made many lifelong friends. He was a devoted member of the Tomah Baptist Church. He was a member of the D.A.V. and the Grassman-Sowle-Larsen-Senz American Legion Post #201. Harold’s greatest passion was his family. Along with raising his children and grandchildren, he found time to help and nurture many nephews and other young men and children. He trusted in Jesus Christ as his personal Savior and his hope is in the Lord for salvation. He will be sadly missed by his wife, family and his many friends.

She was born May 7, 1923, to Soren and Carrie (Holm) Hansen in Wyeville, WI. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Shennington. She attended the Mayflower Grade School that served much of the Wyeville and Shenningtion areas. Vida graduated from Tomah High School in 1941. She was united in marriage to John Farris in April of 1946 in Tennessee. He preceded her in death. John and Vida moved to Dayton, OH, while John fulfilled his military duties. Vida later settled down in New Carlisle, OH, where she started her career working for General Motors Corp. She worked there for 35 years. In 1996 Vida moved back to Tomah to spend time with her family.

Nicole was known for her kindness to her family and friends, and was always willing to help out. She was an avid pool player, and competed in numerous arm wrestling competitions. She enjoyed fishing. She helped out at Uptown Pizza. Nicole acted as a caregiver for her mother. She was a loving daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, and aunt.

She was born May 1, 1930, to Herbert and Laura (Graham) Schweppe in Iowa City, IA. She was confirmed in the Lutheran faith on March 25, 1945. She was a member of the Tomah Senior High School Graduating Class of 1949. She was united in marriage to Robert Sorenson in 1951. He preceded her in death on May 5, 1998. She was united in marriage to Lloyd Mesner on Aug. 13, 2005. She worked for Sorenson Incorporated until she went to work for the Toro Company. She worked for Toro for over 30 years until her retirement. She was a member of the Laureate Theta Bridge Tournament. She was a faithful member of St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Church. She enjoyed knitting, bird watching and working in her flower garden. She especially enjoyed her trips to the area casinos with Lloyd and their friends; Beverly also said that when she married Lloyd she hit the jackpot. She also had an interest in gadgets; if there was something that was new and made things easier, Beverly was always willing to try it out. She had a special companion in her cat Molly. She will be sadly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

Jesse T. Parker Jesse Tyler Parker, age 17, of Tomah, WI, passed away after a tragic car accident in Albany, GA, on July 4th, 2009. Prior to the accident, he family had spent a wonderful week on the Gulf Coast and were making their way to north Georgia to go white water rafting. His 16-year-old sister Gabrielle was critically injured in the accident, but is slowly recovering at home from these injuries as her big brother, Jesse, is watching over her.
